Adenocarcinoma, adenosquamous carcinoma, and small-cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix are reported to be low in incidence but clinically important. They usually exhibit a more aggressive biologic behavior and have a poorer prognosis than squamous cell carcino-mas at similar stages (1–3). Although human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16) is associated predominantly with squa-mous cell carcinomas and HPV18 is associated predominantly with adeno-carcinomas and adenosquamous carci-nomas (4), differences in prognosis among these groups of cancers are largely still not understood. On the other hand, few reports have evaluated the role of HPV type in the development of small-cell carcinomas [e.g., (5)]. DNA sequence variations among different isolates of HPV16 and HPV18 have been found in various geographic locations and ethnic groups (6–11). To date, these …

Association between Human Papillomavirus Infection and Risk of Prostate Cancer
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common causes of sexually transmitted diseases worldwide and is the etiological agent of cervical and other anogenital malignancies. Since HPVs have been shown to possess oncogenic potential, an association between HPV infection and prostatic cancer (PCa) has been suggested. There are conflicting reports on the impact of HPV infection on the deve...
متن کاملCytotoxic T-Cell Markers and Cytokines in Human Papillomavirus 16
Background and Aim: Cervical cancer is the fourth main cause of mortality among women, and annually about half a million new cases are detected in developed countries. Based on oncological studies, human papillomavirus (HPV) is classified into two categories: high-risk type and low-risk type, and most cases are related to the high-risk type of human papillomavirus. HPV 16 and 18 are among the m...
متن کاملPnm-17: Cost Effectiveness of Human Papillomavirus Testing in Cervical Cancer Diagnosis
Background: Epidemiological studies are shown robust association between human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer. From 1990 HPV was known as a necessary but insufficient cause of cervical invasive cancer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cost effectiveness of HPV test in cervical cancer screening. Materials and Methods: This is a systematic review article; the newest scienti...
متن کاملHuman papillomavirus genotypes in 108 patients with anogenital warts in a sexually transmitted disease clinic in Tehran
Background and Objective: Genital warts, the most common sexually transmitted disease (STD), are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). Few studies have been performed on Iranian women with genital warts or cervix cancer but there isno documented data about genital warts and HPV genotyping in Iranian men. In this study, we determined HPV genotypesin 108 male and females with anogenital warts in ...
متن کاملRelevant Allelic Frequency of Gene Polymorphism and Genetic Predisposition of Human Papillomavirus in Patients with Cervical Cancer
Backround: The present study investigated the correlation between p53 gene codon 72 polymorphism and 6 other genetic single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in patients with cervical cancer infected by HPV. Methods: 450 patients with cervical cancer (280 Squamous cell carcinoma and 170 Adenocarcinoma) were followed at hospitals in Iran from Dec. 2014 to Apr. 2015. Moreover, 100 age/sex-matche...
متن کاملConstruction a DNA Vaccine Containing Human Papillomavirus Type 16 Early Genes as a Potential Vaccine for Cervical Cancer Prevention and Therapy
Background and Objectives: Some of the human papillomaviruses (HPVs) can infect genital tracts and are sometimes associated with anogenital tract cancers. HPVs induced cervical cancers through the expression of E6 and E7 genes by inactivating the tumor suppressor proteins. In this study, E6 and E7 genes were chosen in order to construct an expression vector which is able to express ...
